Subaru is the car brand of Fuji Heavy Industries (FHI). The founder and first president of Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd., Kenji Kita, was a true enthusiast of automotive industry and was personally involved in the creation of the first passenger vehicle prototype P-1 in 1954.
Kenji Kita bought the series of drawings and patents from the French automobile corporation Renault, on the basis of which the first car “Subaru” was made. The word “Subaru is the Japanese name for the Pleiades star cluster in the constellation Taurus. Most of the cars have four-wheel drive and opposed engines.
