Aktiebolaget Volvo (known as the Volvo Group in the US) is Swedish concern. It produces commercial cars and trucks, buses, engines and various equipments. Previously, Volvo group also produced cars, but in 1999 sold its department of cars under the name Volvo Personvagnar (Volvo Cars) to the Ford concern, which in 2010 sold it to the Geely concern. The headquarters is in Gothenburg, Sweden.
The company was founded in 1915 by Assar Gabrielsson and Gustaf Larson as a subsidiary of the well-known manufacturer of bearings SKF. April 14, 1927 the first production car Jakob OV4 was released.
Until 2010, the largest owner of the company was the Renault S.A., which owned about 20% of the shares. In the period 2010-2012, these shares have been sold. As a result, the largest shareholder of AB Volvo Group was the investment company AB Industrivärden.
At present, the main production facilities are located in Gothenburg (Sweden), Ghent (Belgium), Chengdu (China), the engines are manufactured in Skövde (Sweden) and Zhangjiakou (China), body components are manufactured at the plant in Ulufstrёme (Sweden). At the end of March 2015 the company’s management announced plans to build a new plant in the United States.
